The location as one of the main lures
Walking through the park in modern Manhattan, it is difficult to imagine that this place was once ordinary railroad tracks. High Line Park hides a fascinating history behind its scenery. In 1929, the government developed a project for a new railway building. They wanted to make it safer for residents and avoid accidents. Previously the railway was lower and the movement of trains led to fatal cases. The plans turned out to be quite successful and after some time the first train was launched in Manhattan. At that time, the railway was necessary because Manhattan remained one of the leading industrial centers. Most of the freight trains ran here. However, later the railway lost its importance due to the rapid development of new transport interchanges. In addition, New York hosted more business centers and famous corporations than industrial enterprises. The last train was seen here in 1980.
At the end of the 20th century, the abandoned space turned into a meeting place for representatives of local subcultures. Pigeons made their home here. It would have remained a place for birds, if the local authorities had not decided to create a park instead of the railway, which would be ten meters above the ground. Locals welcomed the idea because they got another amazing place to relax. The almost destroyed location quickly turned into a green area, where trees, bushes and flower beds were planted. Now here one can have an interesting time or tell an exciting story to children. The park also attracts tourists.
Modern improvements and incredible scenery
Since its creation, the park has undergone reconstruction and several improvements. Firstly, alleys were developed, paved and accompanied by different types of plants and bushes. Later, benches were installed and the park became bigger. Additional paths were laid and equipped. One of them led visitors to the local pier on the banks of reservoirs. Thus, the park was connected to the embankment. A few years later, an idea evolved to create a transition between the park and the nearest railway station. It was an interesting project for visitors who could get to the station by walking among the green spaces instead of pushing through the crowds.
The view that opens from a height is especially attractive in High Line Park. Photographers often come here in search of perfect and unique shots of Manhattan. Here one can watch the dawn while going to work with a cup of coffee or admire the sunset with the loved one. At such moments, time stops and provides additional minutes for enjoyment. Plants promote free breathing here and the presence of a dismantled railway makes this place a special and unique symbol of the industrial past.
